Haridwar is a holy city and
municipal board in the Haridwar district in the
state of Uttarakhand in northern India. Haridwar
(meaning Gateway to God) is considered to be one of
the seven holiest places to Hindus, as the devas are
said to have left their footprints there. Haridwar
is one of the most sacred cities for Hindus, and is
situated on the banks of river Ganga. It is quite
literally the Gateway to the Lord , as it stands as
a gateway to the famed Char Dham shrines
situated in the Upper Himalayas, Badrinath,
Kedarnath, Gangotri and Yamunotri, giving it the
name Haridwar. |
