Kolkata is the capital of
the Indian state of West Bengal. It is located in
eastern India on the east bank of the River Hooghly.
The city has a population of almost 6 million, with
an extended metropolitan population of over 14
million, making it the third-largest urban
agglomeration and the fourth-largest city in India.
Much of the city was originally a vast wetland,
reclaimed over the decades to accommodate the city's
burgeoning population. The Sundarbans National Park
separates the city from the Bay of Bengal, which is
located about 154 km to the south.

Dakshineswar Kali Temple
The temple compound, apart from the nine-spired main
temple, contains a large courtyard surrounding the
temple, with rooms along the boundary walls. There
is a bathing ghat on the Hoogly river, a bookshop, a
shrine to Rani Rashmoni, a parking lot and twelve
shrines dedicated to the aspects of Shiva, Kali's
companion, and to Radha-Krishna. The chamber in the
northwestern corner just beyond the last of the
Shiva temples, is where Swami Ramakrishna
Paramahamsa spent a considerable part of his life.
Tipu Sultan Mosque
Tipu Sultan Mosque is a mosque near the Esplanade,
Kolkata, India. The mosque was built in 1842 by
Mohammed , the son of Tipu Sultan.Structurally, the
mosque is double-aisled and has multiple domes and
tall corner towers.The alley behind the mosque is
famous for foods like biryani.
Indian Museum This was the first museum of
its kind in Asia. From 1814 to 1878, it was located
at the premises of Asiatic Society in Kolkata, but
has since moved to its own premises in the city. It
occupies a resplendent mansion, and exhibits among
others: an Egyptian mummy, the Buddhist stupa from
Bharhut, the Buddha's ashes, the Ashoka pillar, whose
three-lion symbol became the official emblem of the
Republic of India, fossil skeletons of prehistoric
animals like dinosaurs, an art collection, rare
antiques, and a collection of meteorites.It is also
the largest museum in the country and has rare
collections of antiques, armour and ormanents,
fossils, skeletons, mummies, Mughal paintings, etc.
Raj Bhavan Raj Bhavan
(Bengali and Hindi for Government House) is the the
Governor's house in Kolkata, West Bengal. The structure was
built in pre-Independence times (1803). Once the residence
of Governor-General of India, and called the Government
House, the palatial house is now the residence of the
Governor of West Bengal. The present Governor of West
Bengal, HE Gopalkrishna Gandhi resides in this building.
