Chittorgarh Fort

Chittorgarh  is an ancient city in Rajasthan state of western India. It lies on the Berach River, a tributary of the Banas, and is the administrative headquarters of Chittorgharh District and a former capital of the erstwhile kingdom of Mewar.Historically, it is considered that Chittor was built by the Maurya dynasty in the 7th century AD. It was then named Chitrakut after Chitrang Mori, a Rajput chieftain as inscribed on ancient Mewari coins. Traditional accounts say that the Mori dynasty was in possession of the fort when Bappa Rawal seized it in 734 AD. Chittor was one of the most contested seats of power in India. It is famous in the annals of the Mewar Dynasty as its first capital  and renowned in India's long struggle for freedom. By tradition, it remained the Mewar capital for 834 years. With the following interruptions, the fort has always remained in possession of the Sisodias,The Kingdom of Mewar was founded by Bappa Rawal, of the Guhilot  clan of Rajputs, who established himself as ruler of Mewar in 734, with Chittor garh  as his capital. Chittorgarh was captured in 1303 by Ala ud din Khilji, Sultan of Delhi, but was recaptured in 1326 by Hammir Singh, a scion of the same Gehlot clan. The dynasty fathered by him came to be known by the name Sisodia after the village where he was born.

Chittorgarh Fort is a massive and majestic fort situated on a hilltop near Chittorgarh town in Rajasthan state in India. It is one of the most historically significant forts not only in Rajasthan but whole of North India.

Rana Kumbha

Rana Kumbha [Maharana Kumbhakarna] was the ruler of Mewar, a state in western India, between 1433 and 1468 AD. He was a Rajput belonging to the Sisodia clan. Kumbha was a son of Rana Mokal of Mewar by his wife Sobhagya Devi, a daughter of Jaitmal Sankhla, the Parmara fief-holder of Runkot in the state of Marwar. Rana Kumbha was the vanguard of the fifteenth century Rajput resurgence.

 
Vijay Stambha

Vijay Stambha or tower of victory is an imposing structure located in Chittorgarh fort in India . Vijay StambhIt was constructed by Mewar king Rana Kumbha between 1442 AD and 1449 AD to commemorate his victory over the combined armies of Malwa and Gujarat led by Mahmud Khilji . This 37 m high 9 storyed tower is one of the most remarkable in India . It is built partly of red sand stone and partly of white marble and is enriched by numerous images of Hindu gods and goddesses with inscriptions at bottom of each. There are around 157 narrow steps leading to the terrace from where one can have a beautiful view of Chittorgarh town .

 

Kirti Stambh

Kirti Stambh (Tower of fame) is a tower situated in Chittorgarh in Rajasthan in India. The 22 metre high tower was built by a Jain merchant Jijaji Kathod in 12th century. It is a seven story intricate structure and is full of figures from Jain pantheon. It is dedicated to the first Jain Tirthankar Lord Adinath. Kirti Stambh is older than Vijay Stambha situated in Chittorgarh.
