Pushkar is a sacred town
for the Hindus, situated 11 kms. to the North-West of
Ajmer.The Great Hindu epics of Mahabharat and Ramayana
make references to this religious place regarded to be
Adi Tiratha. It is an occasion for Hindu pilgrims to
converge for a holy dip in the sacred Pushkar Lake to
"wash away the sinsof a lifetime" and pay obeisance at
the ONLY Brahma temple in the world
Thousands of people go to the banks of the Pushkar Lake where the fair takes place. Men buy and sell their livestock, which includes camels, cows, sheep and goats. The women go to the stalls, full of bracelets, clothes, textiles and fabrics. A camel race starts off the festival, with music, songs and exhibitions to follow. Between these events, the most waited for is the test of how the camel is able to bring the items. In order to demonstrate, the men go up on the group of camels one after another.
The Pushkar Fair,or Pushkar ka Mela,is the world's largest camel fair held in the holy town of Pushkar in the state of Rajasthan, India. The Pushkar fair is indubitably the world's largest camel fair.Competitions such as the "matka phod", "moustache", and "bridal competition" are the main draws for this fair which attracts thousands of tourists. The number of foreign tourists eager to witness this exotic event had shot to a new high of 10,000 in 2004,which started on 19 November.
Every November, the sleepy
little township of Pushkar in Rajasthan, India comes

all any, fairs in the world can match the liveliness
of Pushkar. Most people associate the Pushkar Fair
with the world's largest camel fair
People indulge themselves in body tattooing as the villagers from distant places come here to trade their wares. The fair is a gala occasion full of music and dance, fun and frolic, echoing songs in the desert land and colorful costumes of the performers. There is a tourist village designed to complement the natural beauty of the site, arranged in blocks of tents that have unique identity and are named after the famous Rajasthani dances.
CLIMATE
Pushkar has an extreme climate. The maximum
temperature during the summers can go up to 40-45°C
while in the winters it can be below 10°C. There is
not much rain during the monsoon. The best season to
visit this place is in the winters (October to March).
